McGrath Thunderhorse – Pool Blue

This Thunderhorse, finished in a striking Pool Blue, is a refined evolution of our signature design. Based on the popular model showcased at NAMM 2026, this bass features an updated neck pickup position—moved back 3/8" to provide ample clearance for slap players.

The body and headstock are uniquely hand-painted by Madelyn McGrath, making this instrument a true work of art.

Key Components

Pickups: This bass is equipped with three EMG HZ passive pickups configured in our signature layout: Thunderbird, Reverse P, and J.

Preamp: These pickups are routed through an EMG BQ30 3-band preamp, operating at 18 volts for maximum headroom.

Switching: This instrument debuts our all-new 12-way rotary switch, designed by McGrath Guitars. This switch utilizes 6 audio-grade relays to ensure a perfect signal path while offering 12 distinct pickup configurations—from series and parallel combinations of all three pickups to individual selections. It even includes a "Favorite" save function and a triple-tap failsafe to reset to position 1 (all three parallel).

Hardware: Fitted with a 3-ply black pickguard and black bridge/tuners.

Controls: The master volume knob is a push/pull switch for active/passive operation. When in passive mode, the treble pot functions as a tone control.

Build & Comfort

Body: Solid Mahogany for excellent resonance and lightweight performance.

Weight: Fully loaded, this bass weighs a comfortable 8.8 lbs.

Neck Profile: 1.5-inch J-style nut width for comfort and speed.

Features: Stainless steel frets, carbon fiber reinforcement rods for stability, and a two-way spoke nut truss rod. A matching headstock completes the premium package.

Finish: Finished in satin.
