Good news: my digital string height gauges are back in stock!
I’ve now made over 200 of them, which still surprises me a little. I based the design on the LMI digital string height gauge. It was a great tool, but it isn’t available anymore, and I wanted other luthiers to be able to get something like it at a reasonable price. Each one pairs a digital readout (switchable between inches and millimetres) with a clear acrylic base that I cut on my CNC and engrave with the McGrath logo.
About the price
I’ll be straight with you: the gauges now cost $5 more than before. I’ve always tried to keep them affordable, but once I sat down and added up the cost of the parts and the time I spend making each one, I was losing money on every gauge I sold. The new price lets me keep making them without going backwards. I’ve kept the increase as small as I could, and I really appreciate your support.
Batteries not included
Unfortunately I can’t ship the gauges with batteries anymore. Shipping with batteries has become a whole thing, so you’ll need to put in your own when the gauge arrives. It takes a CR2032, and they’re very cheap at your local corporate overlord named after a river in Brazil.
New: instructions PDF
I’ve also added a PDF to the product page with some basic instructions on how to use the gauge. If you’re new to it, or want to pass it along to someone in your shop, it’s there to download.
Thanks to everyone who’s bought one so far. Over 200 gauges out in workshops is a lot of luthiers, and I’m grateful to every one of you.
