With so many modern bridges and pickups offering different spacing options these days, getting your alignment \"just right\" can be a headache—but it makes a huge difference in how your bass feels and sounds.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch3 dir=\"ltr\"\u003e​\u003cb\u003eWhy this gauge works:\u003c\/b\u003e\n\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cul\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e\n\u003cstrong\u003e​Pick your Spacing\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cb\u003e:\u003c\/b\u003e I talked to a bunch of fellow luthiers and narrowed this down to the four most common spacings: \u003cb\u003e17mm, 18mm, 18.5mm, and 19mm.\u003c\/b\u003e\n\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli dir=\"ltr\"\u003e​\u003cb\u003eEqual Spacing:\u003c\/b\u003e Most pickup manufacturers use equal spacing, not proportional spacing for their pole pieces, so that’s exactly how I designed this. It also means if you’re using the 6-string side for a 4-string bass, the math stays perfect.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli dir=\"ltr\"\u003e​\u003cb\u003eUniversal Fit:\u003c\/b\u003e I kept the gauge flat instead of radiused so it works on any fingerboard. Just measure two strings at a time and you’re good to go.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli dir=\"ltr\"\u003e​\u003cb\u003eStay Centered:\u003c\/b\u003e It’s easy to get your spacing right but have the whole thing off-center. I added center arrows on each side to help you line everything up with the neck and magnets.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003c\/ul\u003e\n\u003ch3 dir=\"ltr\"\u003e​\u003cb\u003eHow to use it:\u003c\/b\u003e\n\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003e​The notches on the sides are sized to fit your actual string gauges so the tool doesn't slip around.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cul\u003e\n\u003cli dir=\"ltr\"\u003e​\u003cb\u003e4-String:\u003c\/b\u003e Use the middle four grooves.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli dir=\"ltr\"\u003e​\u003cb\u003e5-String:\u003c\/b\u003e Use the larger hole to the right for a low B (unless you’re rocking a high C).
